Hello,

It appears the links to the files in OP's post are missing? I am a longtime backintime user and I cannot get the app to run under Salix. It will install just fine, just will not run. I am assuming it is because I am using the Mate & XFCE DE's as backintime has GUI's for KDE & Gnome only. I assumed the Gnome GUI would work on Mate & XFCE. We all know what happens when you assume something :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Run backintime from the command line and post the error messages here

I've tried that and there are no errors. A gui frontend for KDE or Gnome are also required to be installed. At least that was how it worked on Debian based systems.

I'm running SalixMate 13.37 and just installed backintime using slapt-get. Seems to work here.

Code: Select all

root[rich]# slapt-get --se backintime
backintime-1.0.8-i486-1cp [inst=no]: backintime (simple backup tool for Linux)
root[rich]# slapt-get --i backintime
Reading Package Lists...Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libbonobo libgnome backintime
0 upgraded, 0 reinstalled, 3 newly installed, 0 to remove, 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1.8MB of archives.

kwisher, do you mean backintime for 13.37, or backintime for the 14.0 beta ?
For 13.37, it runs ok under Xfce, I use it.
For 14.0, I changed the package a bit, some you have to install backintime-cli and backintime-gnome (well in fact, it's not so gnome, it's mainly Gtk2).

I've tried it in 13.37 Mate and now 14.0 XFCE with no luck. The GUI will not start. In XFCE 14.0 I installed both packages as you suggested.

I can usually be found in the #salix IRC channel if you want to chat sometime.

Well, seems "libgnome" was missing in the dependencies. I need to check if it should be added to backintime-gnome deps or to gnome-python deps.

JRD,

Thank you for your help yesterday on IRC. I have checked my 13.37 64-bit Mate system at work and backintime is functioning correctly now. I believe the problem on this machine was that the user *pid file was locked. After removing those locked files everything works.
