compiz-fusion!

You don't have to install *all* the packages, but first install compiz from the repos and then install, in this order:
compiz-bcop
libcompizconfig
compizconfig-python
ccsm
compiz-plugins-main
then launch ccsm and make sure to enable "Window Decoration", "Resize Window" and "Move Window" at least. Then launch via Alt+F2 'compiz --replace ccp' and voilà!

ps: I still don't know how to enable the marco window decorations in MATE... can anybody please tell me how? 'gtk-window-decorator --replace' didn't work...
