I knew I forgot something. Now I uploaded libxdg-basedir on my site, too.

The manual does not work. Did you miss the man page in the package?

Ok, now with man pages in four different languages.
I hadn't installed linuxdoc-tools on my box, so building the man pages had been skipped.

Well, vbox took a dive on me. When I get the motivation, I'll be setting aside a new partition for Salix.
Earlier someone asked why the freaky wm... The short answer would be raw speed and a distaste for using the mouse/trackpad.
I'll probably start working on it tomorrow. Following the input so far and appreciate it.

OK, I'm testing awesome on my netbook now. At least it is interesting and I think it can improve the netbook usage if I get used to all these hotkeys because using the touchpad is awful

Hi,

so i don't want to play the tiling wm evangelist :-), but if you like you can try my configuration.
http://radamanthys.de/salix/repo/awesome_eeepc.tar.gz
(Extract this in your .config directory, backup the existing awesome dir and rename awesome_eeepc to awesome.)

I configured it for lazy couch surfing. You can do the most important stuff with the right hand.

Meta-key is the key that advertises windows. With M-1 to 6 you jump directly to a tag (in a way a desktop),
You can flip thru the tags with M-y previos tag *), M-x next tag.
If you have more than one application on a tag, you flip thru them with
M-a previos app, M-s next app.
With M-q, M-w, M-e, M-r, M-t you can start your 5 most wanted applications directly, (they are in the quick launch widget.)
M-Return opens a terminal. M-c closes the current application.

With M-Space you change the layout. Default is Maximized. If you have two apps on a tag and want to see both, just press M-Space and they get tiled horizontically, if you have more than two, press again M-Space and the layout is a kind of magnifier. To change the size of the current window, you use M-KeyUp and M-KeyDown.

The only other shortcut I often use is M-Shift-1 to 6 to move the current application to the specified tag.

For the quick launch apps, you can edit starter.lua to your needs.
*) if you don't have a german keyboard, you should change M-y to M-z, in rc.lua in line 189

I think it's handier than a mouse for the same reason some people prefer their trackball over the touchpad.

But not on the mini area on my netbook :D The best touchpad I've seen so far is on a MacBook Pro, it's huge and has a better surface.
