Can you PM ruario, the package maintainer? If he doesn't respond, we'll see what we can do.

I sent him a PM at Sunday, but he hasn't responded yet :(
BTW, I found that there is a slackware package available from the official page so I'm going to give it a try and report back

No, I don't guess that would work. As far as I can see it's a generic tarball, not a slackware package, although it's named that way.

I remember reading about layoffs in opera about the time they decided to switch to webkit. Must have been a month ago or so. Hope ruario wasn't a part of them....

In any case, I have upgraded the package in the repos now.

Sorry, I have been away a lot as I am on parental leave with my daughter and haven't followed these things as well as I should. Opera 12.15 came out today and I have put in an update request. I also have binary packages here if anyone wants them

Oh and so far they haven't fired me. Just before I left for paternity leave I was made the team leader for the Linux/FreeBSD team. I am not the most experienced of our Linux/FreeBSD guys by a long shot but that is not what they were after when looking for a team lead.

Congratulations! Sometimes it's not just about technical knowledge but about leadership skills and team-work. A good leader can make better use of the other team members' knowledge, even when it's superior to the leader's. Congratulations and good luck, new team leader!

He still posts at Linux Questions dot org about Opera and still tries to help.

But to quote gapan:

I would advise against using opera as a browser at this point. It seems that they have abandoned development for linux completely, as they haven't released a new version for ages. In the mean time they are releasing new versions for all other platforms all the time...
On another system. I am trying out the latest 64bit .deb and let it update through the package manager system.

rokytnji, that was a spambot you answered to. :D
OOOOps
Thanks gapan.

Hard to detect them I know...

I deleted his post, but I'm leaving yours, since it has interesting info.

Ruario replied to my post at Linux Questions. I will check out his install instructions for Salix later since this flu shot has me
under the weather presently.

Looks to me like Opera Linux development is not dead (not sure about 32 bit Opera though). I have to research 1st with a clear head.

Thanks gapan. I edited my previous post instead of making a new one.
But I figured Raurios response to my post warranted a new post here.

Happy Trails, Rok
