Qutecom-VoIP Client

Post by laplume »

Hello,
For Salix 14.0.1 I cannot find this package, neither on repos nor via Salckbuilds.

Source code is available at http://www.qutecom.org/
Latest version is 2.2.1.

As an alternative could you provide Jitsi in your repos? Link at https://jitsi.org/

Thanks,
regards
Antonio

I will look into it. Is there any particular advantage these have over ekiga, which is already in the repositories?

To me qutecom can handle im accounts as well (especially Google Talk ones), I don't know if Ekiga has the same features.

jitsi is just a java app. So you can just download the .jar file from here:
https://download.jitsi.org/jitsi/generic/

and then run it with:

Code: Select all

java -jar jitsi-$version.jar
provided you have openjre or openjdk installed.

Thanks Gapan,
I will give Jitsi a spin. I have a 14.0.1. full install so openjre is already there.

If that doesn't work, could you try ekiga and let us know what you think of it?

Hello Mimosa,
I also tried Ekiga (using the sip account I got from an italian provider) but unluckily I cannot get it to work (says host unreachable, although account is recognised and connected). I have tried Openwengo/Qutecom under 13.0.2 and the package was working fine there.

Hello Mimosa,
Jitsi works ok (presently I have it installed on my laptop at work; I use voip service to call home when I'm abroad).
I tried it on Salix and currently works ok for the im services (google talk + Facebook contacts). Access for voip services is ok but when I try to make a call the I cannot get through. I am not 100% sure but I think it's something related to my home laptop. I will give it a try on another spare machine I have available and report my findings.
Anyway by looking at the potentials of this application I think it would be great to have it added to Salix repos (it's a java app, so it's no problem in running it under Salix).

Antonio

In sum then, you feel that either one would do?

The java one is so easy to download and run it hardly seems worth making a package; but anyway, let us know how you get on with it.
