Scrotwm

Post by zitrone »

Hi,
I'm new to Salix, but not new to Slackware.
It would be nice if Scrotwm (Link) would be a package of Sailx.
Scrotwm is a small dynamic tiling window manager for X11. It tries to stay out of the way so that valuable screen real estate can be used for much more important stuff. It has sane defaults and does not require one to learn a language to do any configuration. It was written by hackers for hackers and it strives to be small, compact and fast.
It's really a nice and simple TilingWM. I love it but couldn't find a Slackbuild or another Package for Slackware.

Thanks
Gelbe Grüße!

Here you go:
http://pnboy.pinguix.com/gapan/salix/scrotwm/
32bit and 64bit packages included. That's a temporary location, I'll test drive this for a couple of days and then I'll add it to our repository. Seems to work fine so far, but tell me if you find anything out of the ordinary. I set the default meta key to the win key BTW.

Great!!
I would like to kiss you!

It works great.

The set to the Win-key is ok. That's the first things i change.

Btw, a big thank you for this great distribution!

Can anyone give me a hint, what I'm doing wrong?

I installed the package with slackware 13.1 (32bit), set it as default via xwmconfig und do startx.

the scrotwm-screen appears, but whatever I do, I can't see any reaction. but Mod4 (Win-Key)+m should start a menu and Mod+S+q should end the x-session, right?

The delivered scrotwm.conf is located under /etc

thanks in advance

Mod4+p will start dmenu if you have it installed.
Mod+S+q should end the x-session, right?
Yep, it's Mod4+Shift+q

Mod4+Shift+Enter to launch xterm.

Don't forget to cp /etc/scrotwm.conf $HOME/.scrotwm.conf

sorry to bring up an old topic, but I'd like to request a version bump for scrotwm

the last version available is 0.9.26 and the one in the repo is 0.9.22
and regarding the SLKBUILD, the source code directory has been moved to http://opensource.conformal.com/snapshots/scrotwm/

and here's a slackbuild from SBo

In Salix 13.2. :)

Until then, you can probably use the existing SLKBUILD and run it after changing the version, if you want it too much. Or use that slackbuild for that matter.
