srware iron (chromium based browser)

Post by jsfarinet »

Seems there is no slackwarepackage for this browser:

https://www.srware.net/en/software_srwa ... s_iron.php

At least spi -i and a manual research on sbo didn't give a result.

It would be nice if there were a slackware built of the browser above. Seems to me an acceptable solution for those who would prefer chrome/ium over firefox for some reason but who are concerned nevertheless for privacy. Moreover, there is now a reasonable susbtitute for NoScript for the chrome based browsers (it's called SafeScript).

Cheers.

You can download their precompiled binary here (choose your architecture):

http://www.srware.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8869

As per the readme, you can either run it in situ, or put it somewhere (such as /opt) and add a symlink to /usr/bin (perhaps, stricltly speaking, /usr/local/bin).

While precomplied binaries should be regarded with caution, this does come from their site and appears to be legitimate. I ran it briefly and it works. Somehow, it knows my Firefox browsing history and gmail user name ...
