List of 3rd party repositories we could use

Post by gapan »

Except the official slackware ones of course...

Gnome slackbuilds:
ftp://ftp.slackware.org.uk/gsb/gsb-2.26/

Slacky:
http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-12.2/

Linux packages (not really sure about the quality):
http://linuxpackages.cs.utah.edu/Slackw ... ware-12.2/

Alien Bob's repo:
http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/

Robby Workman's repo:
http://rlworkman.net/pkgs/12.2/

And their 13.0 equivalents when slackware 13.0 is released of course. We can have all that software available with zero effort from our part! See that it makes a lot of sense to be 100% compatible with slackware? Maybe there are even more quality 3rd party slackware repos out there. ;)

I'm considered about the quality of these third party repos. At least I know linuxpackages.net has not the best packages. In my Slackware times I've only used these packages if I was to lazy to build the package myself. For me it was a big advantage to have a well tested extra repo with Zenwalk.

So my conclusion:
* Don't add these repositorys by default
* Don't add Zenwalk repos by default
* Create a short HowTo in wiki/forum with all extra repos

Vector linux has some repos which I think are pretty high quality, but it still might be better to stick with just slackware and alcoholix mirrors by default, so that users don't end up installing the same package twice with different names.

As far as I've seen gnome slackbuilds are 100% perfect. Same for Robby Workman's and Alien Bob's. Slacky is probably 50%. Linux packages is doubtful.

That said, I too think that only slackware and ours should be enabled by default. But at least gsb and RW and AB ones should be included by default but disabled.
