First alpha iso

Post by gapan »

Get it here:
http://alcoholix.enialis.net/i486/current/ISOs/

Obviously is very early to have something final. This is a very early alpha, intended only to provide everyone with a common base as installation. Use it with slackware current repos (and our own current repo of course). We'll settle with 13.0 when it comes out.

The installer is exactly the same as in slackware, so you'll see some strange dialogs asking about package categories etc... Just ignore the dialog with the package categories and select a "full" installation in the next dialog.

I intended to include jre, ktsuss and wicd in the iso, but somehow they ended up in the wrong directories and were accidentally left out in the end. So, you'll need to install them separately...

Next step will be to tweak the installer to remove all unnecessary dialogs and make it more like the zenwalk installer.

We also need to:
1. Add a splash app, probably splashy.
2. Port some zenwalk systemtools, like networkconfig, userconfig etc.
3. Find artwork and customize xfce, gdm, splash (I like the gdm theme I put in the package :P).
4. Find what doesn't work as it should (I already found the cups "Manage Printing" menu item doesn't work).
5. See what (if?) we can replace mplayer with (vlc?)
6. Probably add Qt by default (or maybe not, it's over 40MB)
7. Set default settings (repos) for slapt-get/gslapt and/or zpm/zendo when they are ready.
8. See what we're missing in /etc/skel (we need to get rid of the xfce tipsntricks window and if we can disable the OOo registration at least)
9. See if some packages can be removed.
...
feel free to add more to the list...

What really matters is where you are going, not where you come from.
