We will make this a public release in a day or two.
Salix 13.0beta1 is out!
Re: Salix 13.0beta1 is out!
Do we really want to start with such a high version number? What about 1.3.0 or 0.13.0?
Re: Salix 13.0beta1 is out!
We're aiming to match Slackware in every release, so we'd better make it as obvious as possible.
Re: Salix 13.0beta1 is out!
Hum...I prefer to have our own version number.
We can specify 13.0 somewhere in our version number, but I prefer to have our own.
If at one point, we decide not to follow anymore Slacwkare for a reason or another, we could still use our own version.
Like 0.13.0
Next could be 1.14.1 for version 1 of Salix, matching Slackware 14.1.

Re: Salix 13.0beta1 is out!
Didn't we say we should keep things simple? If we have matching versions with slackware, the simplest thing to do is... have matching versions with slackware!
Even if that happens, we could have our own version numbering at that point even if we match slackware now.
Why shouldn't we follow slackware anymore at any point? Being 100% backwards compatible with slackware is one of our main aims! Well, if Pat decides to switch to .deb packages we probably will, but what are the odds?JRD wrote:If at one point, we decide not to follow anymore Slacwkare for a reason or another, we could still use our own version.

Re: Salix 13.0beta1 is out!
Now that Slackware 13.0 is released, we'll have a beta2 that will use the 13.0 repos by default and not the current ones. So that will be the one to announce after all. Actually I'm thinking that we should go ahead and announce a final version in a week or so, when we'll have the forum and wiki setup in Akuna's server.
oh, I also changed the repo name from "current" to "13.0", so the link to the iso has changed too.

I need to test it and make bug reports in a hurry then
