Re: What do you have Salix installed on

Post by gaucho »

I enjoyed using a previous Xfce version of Salix, but decided to experiment with LXDE. I'm currently running Salix 13.37 LXDE on the hardware listed in my signature file. The OS is on a root (/) partition of 12 GB and a /home partition of 14 GB.

After the initial installation, the only problem I encountered was a conflict between the Nouveau driver and my Nvidia integrated GPU. Thanks to maximus' instructions in the forum thread below, it took just a few minutes to install the proprietary Nvidia driver and have the X Server working without any issues:

< Edit: I discovered that there are also detailed instructions in the Wiki:

"How to Install the proprietary NVIDIA driver." >

I'd like to thank everyone involved with the development of this release. Salix OS is working great for me and has been very stable. :)

EeePC 1005HAB. 1 GB RAM, dual-core Atom N270 processor. 160 GB SATA hard drive, and the ever vexing Intel 945 graphics chipset.

Yes, it works. Somehow.

Gateway lt3103u
1.2Ghz Athlon 64
2G Ram
250G HDD
ATI Graphics (this is a pain)

Running Salix Ratpoison x86_64. Literally the only flavour of Linux that has worked with this hardware right out of the box. And it seems that the Ratpoison version was made with me in mind. From preinstalled apps to rc configs, the whole thing is how I'd want it.
