What about LXDE 14?

Hi friends,

I am running SalixOS LXDE 13.37 x64, but LXDE seems dead in SalixOs.

What about it? Should I change to XFCE 14?

Thanks!

You never know, but I don't think anyone is making it. 14.1 is about to be released and there will pretty definitely be Openbox and Ratpoison versions not too long after. If you want to use xfce, you can wait a few days, or just install the RC1.

I wouldn't go to 14.0 unless you particularly want to do a version upgrade rather than a reisntall. Instructions for this are on the wiki, but as you say, it probably means a change of window manager anyway.

Thanks Mimosa!

If I stay in LXDE 13.37 how long I will get updates? The 2.6.34xx kernel is dead...

No, Salix LXDE 14.0 will never happen. Maybe it will be revived for 14.1, but it's not certain. You can keep using 13.37 though. It will be supported for the next few years at least. As for the kernel, why do you need a newer one? The only real reason would be to support newer hardware that is not supported by the version you already have. And you can still compile your own kernel, it's not that hard, if you really need it.

13.37 was a very good edition of Slackware and probably my personal favourite Salix so far.

Thank you gapan, then if this is safe and I don't need change the old kernel I'll stay with LXDE 13.37 for a long time.

Yes, I agree mimosa, my LXDE 13.37 64bits is the most stable, smooth and rock solid OS I never tried...!
