I just received something that reminds me of Windows Update. Is this for real? It asks me to update Firefox, never seen something like this, virus?

It is bogus in that the site can have been compromised at the worst case scenario or the site is displaying that because it knows all functions may not show. Reading your user agent string.

I ignore such external crap myself. Gslpat or in Firefox internal upgrader is the only way I upgrade if running a static Firefox install in /opt.
But to be sure.

Your question is kind of ambiguous/hard to decipher without a screenshot of said issue.

Sorry, you get a square with a message to update Firefox ASAP.
It shows a line to connect with the server but it never connects, I shot it down.

A Firefox ESR update through Gslapt/slapt-get is perfectly normal. You may have to set your Firefox preferences to not pester you about direct updates from Firefox/Mozilla.
