create an ISO file from a CD

Post by jpg153 »

Hi all,

I found an old CD with some "pinball" game. So I installed dosbox from sourcery, which comes up fine.
To get the game started it was recommended to create an image from the CD and place the ISO in a directory
to circumvent some specific errors.

However I fail to create the image.
I have a DVDwriter attached and a DVDROM. I place the CD in the DVDROM but other than the CD being recognized as Music CD (which is obviously wrong)
I cannot get access to the CD.
"Mount" commands fail...
The idea is to create an image with mkisofs ... but no idea how to mount the CD.

Any hint?

Thanks
Regards Gruß

Detecting it as a music CD is not necessarily wrong. It most probably is a mixed mode CD. A lot of games used to have a data section, with the actual game and an audio section in the same CD that included game music.

As far as I know, you cannot create an ISO from a mixed mode CD. The audio section has no error correction and cannot be read as data. And an iso file is data-only. What you can do is create a bin/cue pair. Something like this should work:

Hi Gapan,

as usual "Mr. Knowitall" helped a lot. :ugeek:
Your hint and link was perfect. Did that and after some fumbling with dosbox I got it all working.

"Pro Pinball - The Web" runs fine in dosbox!

This makes me thinking about some other "virtualisation projects"

:!: great support :!:

Thanks a lot!
