Changing desktops

Post by Sasquatch »

I see that Enlightenment is available via Gslapt. Does that mean I can simply install it and try it out? Or would I have to do more to enable it?

Also, with the Wayland protocol in the repositories does that mean I could also try it out? Seems there would have to be much more to running Wayland than just installing a binary and rebooting.

Why not try installing it and see what happens? Probably, it will be added to the options available from GDM. Choose it once only (not as the new default) in case it proves unusable.

I would imagine you'll have a hard time using Wayland, yes.

You can just uninstall it again if it doesn't work or you don't like it.

I actually tried every WM available in the repos except Enlightenment. Some I couldn't get to work, others were nothing interesting. It really made me appreciate just how good xfce is. Then I saw this series of videos and found i3 in Sourcery. I think I'm now hooked on tiling windows. I haven't even begun to customize the configuration. But I foresee adding a lot of functionality to my desktop.
