Optimizing for multiple cores

I just bought one of these on eBay and I'm too excited about it. Going to build a graphics workstation so I can quit trying to render things on a laptop. Is there anything I can or should do during the install to optimize things for a whole bunch of cores? The board is coming with dual-core processors but I'll be upgrading to hexa-core as soon as I can. So that will be 24 physical cores to play with. I realize not every program works with multiple cores. I just don't know if there are things I can do with the kernel, or even a special kernel to get the most out of the system.

No, there is nothing you should do. Everything is already optimized for any number of cores.
