Installing Salix 14.2 in 10/2019

Post by xavier »

Please advise what to consider when installing Salix x86_64 today to get the up-to-date system? Which repositories put to slapt-getrc, what and in which order is better to update first (kernel, glibc, etc)?

Just select any repository other than hostingxtreme (slackware.uk will do just fine for example), run:

Code: Select all

sudo slapt-get --update
sudo slapt-get --upgrade
And then you can upgrade the kernel and glibc at the same step if you want. Make sure you update your lilo/elilo configuration before rebooting.

George, thanks!

Sorry for my belated reply! I did not receive notification by email, and then the idea of updating my system had to be postponed.

So, back to the topic: I understand that the installation and update of Salix 14.2 itself is not a big problem, and initially I had in mind "how best to update a freshly installed Salix 14.2 to the slackware-current state, having as few problems as possible."

Unfortunately, updating the iso itself is not so easy. You may try, the scripts that we use are here:
