Slackel 13.37 KDE-4.6.3

Post by djemos »

Slackel is a Linux Distribution and Live cd developed for greek users. But can be used from users of any nationality.
Slackel exists before Salix appears and it was a livecd made with linux live scripts of Slax. Now it is based on Salix and this is the first installation version (Not livecd). Slackel 13.37 livecd version which can be installed in HD will follow.
HomePage of Slackel (greek and english) http://www.slackel.gr. click on English flag to read in English.
The letter on Slackel desktop is the small greek letter sigma. (σ)

Slackel 13.37 KDE-4.6.3 installation cd release is available.

Slackel 13.37 KDE-4.6.3 image (32-bit) (size: 695MB, md5: ba7bb514b2d31db9b2f74618f735cc48):
Download it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/slackel ... o/download

In installation do not choose default gr keyboard but choose us keyboard to have English environment and not Greek after installation. It is Slackel distribution which is for Greek users and is based on Salix and includes some more packages as gftp, pidgin and kde 4.6.3.

KDE is excluded from slapt-get to not break system if someone install a kde-4.5.5 package.
The rest slackware packages can be installed as usual with gslapt/slapt-get.

Do not upgrade kdepim and kdepimlibs since these versions included in 13.37 works fine with KDE-4.6.3 and are stable.

bluedevil, the new bluetooth connection manager for KDE is included too. It integrates well with KDE (you will find a “send to bluetooth device” in Dolphin’s context menu for instance). The old “kbluetooth” application is no longer developed and the GTK application in Slackware “blueman” is not as featureful.

In case it will be useful to anyone or like to have a taste of Slackware with the latest KDE-4.6.3

Slackel was actually the first slackware based distribution I ever tried (excluding slackware itself). And I was amazed. I started digging more into slackware-based distributions after that. Thanks djemos! :)
