Code: Select all

$ ./configure
$ make
$ su
Password:
# make install
Also I recommend to explicitly mention to look at README, INSTALL whatever files and ./configure --help or ./configure --help=short output. I must admit not having looked at the guide yet, so this might well be in there already. :)
I like your suggestions. I will add these in the next round of corrections. Thanks!

I agree

Fantastic job on the guide!

Some comments:
* The window manager in the LXDE edition is openbox. There is no "LXDE" window manager.
* The window manager for KDE is KWin.
* It's "Claws-mail", not "Clawsmail"
* Make the heading of the column "Salix Xfce", not "Salix". Everything is Salix, it's just the Xfce edition.
* Have a column for ratpoison? Here's the list of apps:
browser: Vimprobable2
email: Mutt
picture viewer: Viewnior
file manager: gnome-commander
window manager: Ratpoison
IM: pidgin
spreadsheet: sc
text editor: gvim
IDE: gvim
pdf viewer: Zathura
media player: Whaaw
music player: Music On Console (MOC)
disk burner: bashburn
torrents: rtorrent
terminal: xterm
package management: gslapt
everything else is "none".

Maybe you should have gslapt/sourcery under package management in all editions?

Indeed, I just finished going over the guide & you guys really did an excellent job.

I should be able to help you with all the LiveCD related changes next week.

The draft version is updated to version 4 now.

Mimosa kindly added a few more paragraphs on the ratpoison walkthrough.

For those who are not on the mailing list but are interested in this topic, recently we upped our documentation system and ported it to Publican.

This is all still new to us as we are learning to tame this new system but it should greatly improve our production and translation workflow as well as the overall presentation of our documentation.

Here is a preview => http://guide.salixos.org/draft/html-split/en/index.html

We still have to update the content of the Live CD section but translation for all other parts can already start on Transifex => https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/salix/r/default/ (expand the link: "This release has 35 resources".) You may have to add your language if it is not done yet.

All the chapters of the guide are now on separate po files that have a "Salix documentation:" prefix.
