Post by Akuna »

You can preview the stub here:

If anyone is interested, I could use some help.
Any ideas, suggestion, correction, missing articles writing are most welcome.

Salix Live Startup Guide is basically completed now:

Get the full pdf version here: http://salix.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... eGuide.pdf

As stated before, please feel free to proofread & bring up your suggestions/corrections in this thread.

If you want to have the guide available in your own language & wish to help with its translation, here are some guidelines:

An easy way to translate openoffice document is to use OmegaT. OmegaT is a free translation memory application written in Java. It is a tool intended for professional translators. It does not translate for you however it extirpates the strings to be translated from the original document & presents it to the translator in a way that free the translator from any layout consideration so that he can fully concentrate on his translating job. Here is a short video presentation introducing its basics concepts: http://leuce.com/tempfile/omegat_intro.swf

OmegaT website: http://www.omegat.org/en/omegat.html

1- Download the latest version of OmegaT (their beta version is usually stable enough for production)
At the time of this writing:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/omegat/ ... p/download

2- Explode the downloaded archive to the location of your choice. Navigate to find your OmegaT launch script (the file named OmegaT.jar in the unpacked folder), you can launch it directly from the command line, you can create a script that includes launch parameters for the command line or you can click on OmegaT.jar to launch it directly.

3- Study the help. In a nutshell, you simply need to place the file to be translated in the 'source' subdirectory of OmegaT work directory (which you must define in OmegaT project preferences) once you finish translating the strings of the original document, you will then generate a translated document which will be available in the 'target' subdirectory of OmegaT work directory.

The file to translate is the ODT document used to generate the PDF startup guide:
http://salix.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... eGuide.odt

As usual you can send your translations to salix-main@lists.sourceforge.net

if you need help, do not hesitate to post your questions below.

Tx :)

Hello,

I downloaded the file in format PDF & ODT, and I have a doubt:

Which is the real subtitle of the Guide? I mean, in the image showed two messages before subtitle is "User's Guide", but in the downloaded file subtitle is "Startup Guide".

This may be isn't important, but in page 20 a paragraph says "... you should first of all take some time to study Salix User's Guide as...". So, is this a reference to this file or other?

Oh, I began to translate the guide to Spanish (I just have to generate the images in Spanish).

Regards,

You can get the pdf from here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/salix/ ... uide/trunk

Click on it and then click on the download link.

I can't find anything for the odt. It doesn't make much sense to put these kind of files under svn.

Yes, and this is the reason the odt is not on svn anymore. Or precisely not in the ODT format.
To get the odt file, you need to get the "odt-en_US" directory and files and
- either get the "make-odts.sh" script and run it,
- or zip the "odt-en_US" content (no "odt-en_US" directory in the zip) and rename the zip file to odt.

About Salix User's Guide or Salix Startup Guide, I don't know, but we must pick one and stick to it. Maybe Akuna could answer this.

Akuna,

I have just read the SalixLiveGuide-en_US.pdf and, whilst it is generally written to a high standard of English, I have spotted some mistakes. I am a native English speaker and would be prepared to proofread the guide and make suggestions for changes to you.

Do you still need this to be done, or has someone else already done it for you since you asked two days ago?
