Salix on eeepc WICD, unable to obtain ip
Salix on eeepc WICD, unable to obtain ip
WICD does find networks out there, both hidden secure and free wifi, but for whatever reason, it can't obtain an IP address. I'm sure there is a little radio button somewhere that will make this all work,I'm only a beginner so if one of you guys could help me, I would greatly appreciate it...
Re: Salix on eeepc WICD, unable to obtain ip
Try setting a static IP (and gateway, dns, etc) in wicd for that network.
Also tell us which card you've got and what the output of lspci is.

Re: Salix on eeepc WICD, unable to obtain ip
Did you try this on your own network, or in random networks that you discover? If it's the latter, there could be many different reasons why you don't get an ip. If it's the former, try to set a static ip, maybe dhcp is not working properly.
Re: Salix on eeepc WICD, unable to obtain ip
i already assigned my ip and dns but still no connection... i tried other OS like linux mint and it has no problem connecting... it just cant connect... i can see the wifi network but cant connect... so close yet so far...

Instead of lscpi, lspci -kShador wrote:Also tell us which card you've got and what the output of lspci is.
dmesg | tail
Re: Salix on eeepc WICD, unable to obtain ip
Output of iwconfig and ifconfig might be helpful, too.
