Would an Australian FTP mirror be useful?

Post by phayz »

I really like Salix, although I haven't yet used it for long. When I tried to download it I found that I had two options - download it from one of the 2 mirrors via HTTP or via BitTorrent. I wonder if an FTP mirror - located in Australia - would be useful? There is a local semi-govenment organisation which mirrors many FLOSS projects and might be willing to provide an FTP mirror for Salix.

Please confirm either via replying to this entry or PM if you're interested.

Sure, that would be a great addition. :)

What really matters is where you are going, not where you come from.

Doesn't Sourceforge already provide mirrors in Australia for the ISO? But for sure a package mirror would be nice ;)

Thenktor, I hadn't checked if Sourceforge provided Australian mirrors. My thoughts were simply that some people might prefer an FTP mirror instead of HTTP, although the difference is very slight.

I'll see if they're willing to provide a mirror. When I last made a request they asked for details such as:
* how often do we want it sync'd?
* what is the source URL for rsync?
* who should the contact be in case of problems?

If you could provide these details it would be very useful in making my request.

Twice a day should be OK. If it can be more frequent, even better.

Code: Select all

rsync -a --del salix.enialis.net::salix salix
would do it.

gapan,

Thanks for that information. I have now submitted an official request with those details included. I should know in about a week if the request has been successful.
