Is there any chance to have it in next Salix release?

Re: Xfce 4.8 released!
I've just installed Xfce 4.8 in a Slackware 13.1 box.
I compiled the dependencies 'with a little help from my friends' slackbuilds.org and sbopkg, then compiled Robby's packages.
The only extra thing I needed to do in order to make it work was copying /etc/xfce/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu to ~/.config/menus.
As thenktor said, there are still a couple of bugs left from 4.6

Could you please write a little how-to about upgrade from 4.6.2 to 4.8 for adventure hunters like me?I've just installed Xfce 4.8 in a Slackware 13.1 box.

Of course!solar wrote:Could you please write a little how-to about upgrade from 4.6.2 to 4.8 for adventure hunters like me?I've just installed Xfce 4.8 in a Slackware 13.1 box.
First, I recommend that you install Salix with no XFCE. Try Salix LXDE / KDE / fluxbox editions.
Then go here: http://connie.slackware.com/~rworkman/xfce-4.8/NOTES and install packages 1 - 17. You'll notice that you won't be able to install libgnome-keyring and gnome-disk-utility, but that's no problem since they are packages that the GNOME guys decided to fork those packages from gnome-keyring and gvfs in the latest GNOME versions.
Go here http://connie.slackware.com/~rworkman/x ... layer-info and build and install the package. You know how to use slackbuilds, don't you?
After having those packages installed, download everything from here (except the deps directory, since you've already got all those packages installed in your system): http://connie.slackware.com/~rworkman/xfce-4.8/source and build packages 18 - 24 from the NOTES file.
Finally, copy /etc/xfce/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu to ~/.config/menus. You should have XFCE 4.8 ready to rumble!
Re: Xfce 4.8 released!

Btw.: Xfce 4.8.1 is here! Afaik. only libxfce4util is improved when compared to official 4.8.0 release.
P.S.: Enlightenment is missing, as stated in a comment on that page. Maybe due to still in official "beta" state.

Re: Xfce 4.8 released!
Unfortunately, no official release note (I can not find any, sorry). But it is in git and several other distributions have a libxfce4util package with version 4.8.1 or similiar …lmello wrote:Where?schlawi54 wrote:Nice articles about Xfce ( & co. )
