When I installed Salix-13.37 into HP-2133 Mine-Note I was initially unable to connect to the Internet since I could not get wicd to work the
wireless.
After vasting a lot of time and growing a few more grey hairs I finally had the grand idea to copy from VL-7-Live the following files
to Salix: /lib/firmware/b43 and ../b43legacy as well as all the files /lib/firmware/bcm43xx*.
Having done this and enable wlan0 in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf the wireless Interconnection roared to live.
Question: why are those files not included in Salix when apparently they are needed for wirless Internet connection at least in this small lappy?
Make wicd working
Re: Make wicd working
Please have a look at this package description, that should explain everything:
# LANG=C slapt-get --show b43-fwcutter
Package Name: b43-fwcutter
...
Package Description:
b43-fwcutter (Broadcom BCM43xx firmware extracter)
The Broadcom wireless chip needs software, called "firmware", that
runs on the wireless chip itself during operation. This firmware is
copyrighted by Broadcom and must be extracted from Broadcom's
proprietary drivers.
You can extract the firmware from the Broadcom driver by using
b43-fwcutter.
Note: Read '/usr/doc/b43-fwcutter-013/README.Slackware' for help.
