I hope my experience will help with Brasero:

K3B is the best because it has a larger amount of hardware profiles than correctly detect most DVD recorders. It also allows recording software configured to use in each case. But k3b is not the best option for users who use xfce, by the enormous amount of dependencies from kde.

In Brasero everything is different, in fact you can't choose your recording software for each case. The only way is compiling it yourself with the options you want. An example: The Pioneer recorders along better with cdrtools + Pro-DVD (cdrtools package, supported by slackware), but running with dvd+rw-tools is terrible. Brasero uses the cdrtools software to record CDs, and dvd+rw-tools for DVD, you can't choose cdrtools if your recorder doesn't work with the other soft.

Conclusion: Brasero will work correctly if the recorder is as generic as possible, such as LG, Samsung and Sony. I have a LG GH22NS70 and no problem with Brasero, works perfectly.

Reading the positive comments about xfburn has made me curious whether any of you have experienced the same problem I did:

Xfburn did not "remember" -- or obey -- the slowest burn speed I selected: 8x. As the disc was being burned, the speed steadily accelerated and it seemed like my DVD-RW writer was becoming a runaway train. It was both annoying and scary. I'm not sure whether it is specific to my hardware, or whether it is a more general issue ...

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, did you discover a fix?

Re: Brasero: I've had mixed luck with Brasero -- more successful burns than failures, but there have been enough bad burns that I don't entirely trust it. I've read many complaints in the Fedora Forums about Brasero's lack of reliability.

Re: K3B: This program has always worked best for me (despite the many KDE dependencies it pulls in). I've almost never had a bad burn with K3B, so if I have an .iso file I want to burn only once -- and get it right the first time -- I use K3B.

Re: GnomeBaker: I too have had good luck using GnomeBaker in the past; however, it seems that the program is no longer being developed. The most recent release was in 2008: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gnomebaker/files/ So that might pose a problem as technology marches on.

The current version of xfburn is much improved over the one in the SalixOS repos. Brasero has gone the other way. The one in the SalixOS repos works perfectly for me but the newer version in Vector Linux 7.0 fails every time on exactly the same hardware.

flburn is in Vector Linux 7.0 Light and it is very primitive. It works but is very, very limited. I have no problem with using fltk based apps. Some are really nice and most are very lightweight. flburn needs a lot of work before I'd consider it an acceptable app.

Well, it's pretty lightweight and you can edit the burn commands easily. No, I don't use it as a "substitute" for Brasero, but as a complement.

That's the problem. It by far doesn't look complete enough for a main solo burning application. The antique looking interface is not a real bonus either. And Tcl/Tk is not the smallest dependency I think, so space could possibly be a concern too.
