This is to bring to the attention of admins and forum members that a troll whose name is 'breitling01' has posted some 7 advert filled posts on salix forums. Please remove those posts and ban the bastard breitling01 as soon as possible! I've posted a harsh reply to one of his posts that some of you may find offensive but that bastard deserved it! Cheers!

No need for a topic about this and certainly no need to reply in any of these spam posts. Otherwise we have to clean up your reply as well. Just report the post using the respective button and sooner or later some admin will see it.

Sorry Boss!!! I was just visiting salix forums as usual (part of my daily internet routine) and saw those posts and became angry and in my anger didn't see that there was a button to report a post as spam and so i went ahead and did what i see fit! It's just that i'm not that well-versed in the ways & means of forums! So my intention was good but my action not that smart! Sorry again! P.s. I was just trying to prevent a pest from attacking a beautiful bonsai. Cheers!!!

The panic button is that little upside down triangle, with the red exclamation point. Response has usually been fairly quick.

Given all the recent spam, are there any practical options to turn up Forum security just one notch, for stricter registration requirements?

I didn't know that upside down triangle button was the 'report spam' button. I agree that there should be some stricter security mechanism in place to prevent spam attack but at the same time it shouldn't make the registration process too difficult and painful cause any and every opensource project without the user participation is incomplete and bound to fail. I had a brief chat regarding the 'spam in the forums' with Paul Sherman who is developer of a wonderful slackware based distro 'absolute' they had installed very strict spam filters at absolute forums so much so that new registration from certain countries and certain email services including gmail was next to impossible after our chat Paul eased the registration process. This was at the time of the release of absolute 14. In the end i'll say that spammers are bastards and spam control is a doulble edged sword. Cheers!!!

Whatever happened to the "forum lite" that Thenktor was testing in the chat room?

I did not do anything to make the lightweight test forum secure against spam bots, but with default settings you can see the mess here: http://imtiefenrot.de/forum/search.php? ... how_recent ;)
