xpdf as standard pdf viewer?

Post by jsfarinet »

At least in a lightweight desktop (salix fluxbox) i think xpdf would be more logical as a standard pdf viewer. If there are good settings in Xresources it will nicely do all what's necessary and even look fine.

If you compare them directly, you're probably right. But you'll probably also be running another GTK app anyway, so if you remove the GTK overhead, I think they're not so much different. In short:

Code: Select all

xpdf < atril
but

Code: Select all

another GTK app + xpdf = another GTK app + atril
or close anyway,

and with atril you also get a better GUI, an app that doesn't only support pdf (but also postscript, djvu, cbr...) and an app that doesn't look completely out of place with everything else.
