Hmmm ... what did I misunderstand here? 🤔

1. What my "attempt to "help"" has to do with "copyright protection and licensing"?

The fact: Salix is a very nice, small Linux distribution with good usability, but with looks of yesteryear.

My attempt to help to modernize it, consists of: instead of using the system theme A, icon theme B and cursor theme C, you should consider using the system theme X, icon theme Y and cursor theme Z.

Combine the three elements properly together (with my help) and change a couple of presets properly (with my help) would result in the more modern look.

It's not me forcing you to change the appearance, nor anything else for that matter, and there is nothing I could lose or gain with it.

At the end, Salix will look more modern or it'll stay the same. End of the story (or "attempt"?).

Again: What exactly my "attempt to "help"" has to do with "copyright protection and licensing" model(s)??

2. Our disagreement on the "seriousness of copyright protection and licensing" has exactly nothing to with my "attempt to "help"".

There is no copyright on the ideas.

Copying somebodies work is "plagiarism" and is not allowed; copying somebodies style is a "bad artist" (lack of originality), but not prohibited.

All that starts being a 'discussion topic' only in the case you would use my own work.

If this would ever become the case, then it's not you who should care of copyright infringement - it's me.

If you use my (stolen) works, you can simply say that you have/had my permission  - nobody expects you to be an art and/or copyright law expert.

So, what exactly was your concern again?

You just have to learn to differentiate and "no amount of rambling" is necessary to do that. 🧐

@missTell, let me be clear on this. Your effort is greatly appreciated. However, we will never use anything with a license not open enough for us to use, or anything that isn't clear on the licensing terms it is available under. Please keep these in mind in your efforts or they will be wasted.

If you propose a wallpaper for inclusion, you must accompany it with a proper license that allows us to do so. Otherwise it will not be accepted. No matter how nice it is. Same for icon themes or anything else.

That's actually one of the reasons why I'm uploading VMs instead of a couple of screenshots.

One goes to /usr/share/themes/mmolch-xfce and one reads it, if one cares.

The same goes for /usr/share/icons/you-name-it ...

The only 'strange' license is the one of Open Zone Cursor Set (Ice, Fire ...).

https://fedora.pkgs.org/32/rpm-sphere-n ... h.rpm.html

You can download it here, unpack and read, if you're in hurry.

http://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-set/open-zone-ice

In case that the license is a problem - that's why I provided the alternative - Breeze Snow Cursor.

Today I uploaded the last VMs.

As explained previously, I wouldn't take Papirus as the main theme, because that's what everybody's using in those days.

My Salix looks like the https://people.salixos.org/misstell/VMs ... .2.1.6.ova and that's what I would recommend you to use.

Well, good for them I guess. Did they get a license to use them from the artist?

I doubt it, and I don't know, but if I'd have to bet on it, I'd say: "1. One has to discover it at all first, 2. One has to WARN you to remove it second, 3. If you ignore the warning, they must warn you again, 4. After all, one can go to the court and make the claim - in a foreign country." For a wallpaper...

Since I've no Salix 15 Beta ISO, I had to improvise.

The Stuckware 15 / Xfce 4.16.3

https://ibb.co/87z8jSV

https://ibb.co/tpsMfHT

I uploaded the VirtualBox VM in 'People'.

If anybody's interested ...
