Have you ever checked the 'crime-folder' or the 'horror-folder' (/usr/share/applications) and inspect its contents? Very often, you'll find 'Icon=/usr/share/example/icons/example.png'-like cases with hard-coded paths in application starters.
Not in Salix you don't. At least for all prebuilt packages in the repos. This is something we test against when building a package. You might get some if you install some packages from SlackBuilds.org.

Mate-Brave is basically Adwaita/Gnome/hicolor, with new Folders and a few reworked icons.
Sort of. Actually, mate-brave (and others in the mate-colors icon theme) are a fork of gnome-brave and the gnome-colors icon themes. The gnome-colors themes are based on (and inherit from) the standard gnome-icon-theme. Adwaita is an evolution of the gnome-icon-theme.

Every icon theme has a descriptor file with line like: Inherits=Adwaita, highcolor

The purpose of that line is to tell the system where to look for the icons, if the needed icon is missing.
I know how inheritance works in icons. I've packaged too many icon themes to count.

Most if not all, are anyway, all over the different wallpaper websites.
This is a problem. We can't just use a wallpaper we just grabbed from a website. It doesn't matter if it's provided for "free". Most of the times, if you look at the fine print, you'll find that there are restrictions like "only for personal use". Any wallpaper that we use has to specifically come with a license that will allow us to distribute it, quite possible also modify it. If there is no license, you can't assume that you're allowed to do that.

Sorry for the explanation, but ...

1. I don't know what do you know and what not

2. Maybe somebody else doesn't know and is interested

Yeah, that's truth for the wallpapers, but maybe one could ask them, once one decided over which wallpapers.

1. https://cutewallpaper.org/download.php? ... Image-.jpg

2. https://cutewallpaper.org/download.php? ... lpaper.jpg

3. https://cutewallpaper.org/download.php? ... ounds-.jpg

4. https://cutewallpaper.org/download.php? ... -Free-.jpg

5. https://cutewallpaper.org/download.php? ... mages-.jpg

6. https://cutewallpaper.org/download.php? ... st-4K-.jpg

zain77310@gmail.com

https://cutewallpaper.org/copyright.html

The other website http://simpledesktops.com/about/ states:
Use of these desktop wallpapers is for personal use only, and shouldn't be sold or reposted without the expressed written consent of the desktop creator.
http://simpledesktops.com/about/

It wouldn't cost much to ask at least.

http://simpledesktops.com/contact/

Every creation has the name (of author, uploader ...) under it on that website.

http://simpledesktops.com/

Just as an example:

http://simpledesktops.com/browse/deskto ... ug/16/fez/

If one clicks on the name "Carl Newton", one ends up on:

https://twitter.com/carlnewton

So, at least theoretically, one could ask, after one found something interesting.

Just the idea ...

Oh, I have asked, several times on different occasions. I just never got a reply back, not a single one. Sure, it costs nothing, except time.

That's why we pick a wallpaper that doesn't restrict use.

Different people, different thoughts ...

I close my eyes and I see ...

4 circles ... 3 in different blue tints and 1 almost white ...

A dark blue square and some dark gray form ...

I can hear some birds screeching and see their silhouettes, while their fly over the silver moon, enlightening the night sky ...

https://ibb.co/ScknhZZ

And I end up with an SVG file and a 3840 x 2160 PNG. 😉

Would that work as a Salix wallpaper?

I'm not thrilled. I think it looks more like an openoffice wallpaper, than a salix wallpaper.

Which wallpaper you liked (if any)?

This wallpaper:

... should be here:

(If I remember correct)

What font was used for that logo? (see 'Original' link)

Do you eventually have that font and the tree image as SVG?

Or at least, in high resolution JPG/PNG/TIFF?

I don't know, they all seem OK. They are a far cry from what we used in the past, but I guess that's the point?

The problem I see, is with licensing. If it's not a free license, we can't use any of them.

I don't see a high resolution version of it there. The license is somewhat OK though (I would have preferred it without the NC clause).

I guess we could create an svg out of it.
The problem I see is that this certainly falls under "derivative work". If you don't have a license that allows you do it, you just can't use it.

Huh, the font appears to be "PakType Naskh Basic". I wouldn't have guessed.

Yes, but that's the old logo. Let's go with the new one (the green S).

Thanks!

that's the old logo
I had something else in my mind.
I'd like to try using it as a part of the image, not as a logo.

P.S.
I actually really use those two wallpapers on my computers:

https://www.google.com/search?hl=de-CH& ... k&tbm=isch

The author of the first one is Alex Hatzenbuhler, and he has some other very suitable wallpapers too.

http://alexhatzenbuhler.com/coolstuff.html#wallpapers

Asking the author personally might be a well worth trying.

I'd bet that he wouldn't mind us using it.

https://ibb.co/jTZchwp

I prefer it plain - no climber, no logos, no nothing ...

A simple background for the rare moments when the desktop is not covered with windows.

I don't think there would be any problem if we would use it that way.

I mean - copyright on a rock, the moon and the sky??

Yeah, that's not how it goes. It's still derivative work.
