In Slint firefox Preferences Applications mailto default is set to kmail.
Since I can no longer open stand-alone mail programs how can I change
the default to a browser and in it to fastmail.com. This is the case in my
Salix box where in firefox as default mailto opens fastmail.com with opera. This
without me having done any settings.
.
I tried doing it, however, get nowhere.
In Slint besides firefox I have seamonkey and Midori if another browser
is needed to make a mailto default.

Re: How to Change Firefox Preferences mailto
My assumption is that you did link mailto to Opera (as I don't see that in Salix user settings), and as Opera had business links to FastMail, opening the email link in FastMail was the default in Opera.Atip wrote:In Slint firefox Preferences Applications mailto default is set to kmail.

Cf. this news.
Neither Firefox nor Midori provides the same setting as did Opera out of the box.In Slint besides firefox I have seamonkey and Midori if another browser

You could try to find an add-on for Firefox that allows you to open the mailto: links in FastMail: type either FastMail or mailto in the search field of the "about:plugins" page. Good luck.
Else, just copy the link, open another tab to load your FastMail webmail and paste the link there.
As an aside, here at least (France) there are several free email providers, but I digress.
Re: How to Change Firefox Preferences mailto
is it possible to create a .desktop with a symlink to fastmail.com then under preferences/applications/mail/other and select that symlink?

Re: How to Change Firefox Preferences mailto
I don't know how that would work. But I have another idea:
1) In the address bar type about:config and confirm that you take the risk if asked.
2) In the Search field type 'mail' (without the quotes)
3) You will see several options with a name associated to an uri. For instance here for Yahoo ! Mail:
gecko.handlerService.schemes.mailto.0.name
gecko.handlerService.schemes.mailto.0.uriTemplate
You can change the value associated to each key, and you can also create new keys with a right click.
So create new keys of type "character string", for instance:
gecko.handlerService.schemes.mailto.7.name
gecko.handlerService.schemes.mailto.7.uriTemplate
and as their respective values type FastMail as name and the uri (to be determined) for the webmail.
Good luck.

It does not work. In mailto the setting is firefox which point to /usr/bin/firefox a symlink to
/usr/lib/firefox/firefox.
Clicking an a share mail icon in a website nothing happens.
I have not yet tried the suggestion of ChuangTzu.
In the meantime I will stick to the simple suggestion of DidierSpaier of opening in a new
tab fastmail etc. etc. Should have thought of that myself.
Was not yet able to contact smartbro. To open their website they ask for a password which
I do not have and going to their office is a half-day chore.
