Audacious Not Working

I opened audacious and I can only play a sound file,
however, no recording. Clicking on the recording button
nothing happens.

I then installed audacity, there again no recording is possible.

The multimedia codex are all installed.

Opened my Salix box and there audacity is working showing
that my sound system is OK.

What could be at fault in Slint then?

Nothing is at fault in Slint, I just tried on a fresh Slint 14.2 installation with no additional multimedia codec installed.
  • In the menu open File => Settings => Audio.
  • In the drop-down list "Output plugin:" select PulseAudio Output.
  • In the same window check "Record audio streaming using FileWriter plugin", then close this window.
  • Insert a CD, the click Services => Play CD in the menu.
  • You can click the red disk on the main Audacious window to toggle recording on/off.
  • By default the music tracks are recorded as .wav files in your $HOME directory, but of course you can change this setting.
Thanks for your post: it made me discover features of Audacious I was not aware of ;)

PS I also checked that these audio files in .wav format can also be read and recorded by Audacious.

Thanks!
I had all these settings. However, audacious does not seem the program
I am looking for.

My great-grand-daughter came running to sing and to record for me a new
song she had learned. We used to do this in Salix with audacity. To her
disappointment audacious would not record.

I got now audacity working after I copied the ~.audacity-data over from Salix. :)

When the child comes back later she will be happy singing for me now. :D

You realize audacious and audacity are different applications, right?

Of cause. I found that out. I thought seeing that record button it can be used for voice recording.
Audacious is an open source audio player. A descendant of XMMS
I removed audacious now since I have no need for it and might make a mistake with audacity
opening it again. xmms has been and is good enough for me.

Removing a software shipped in Slint is Forbidden by Law ;)

To remove audacious from the menus, still allowing to run it from a terminal, just type this as regular user:

Code: Select all

cp /usr/share/applications/audacious.desktop ~/.local/share/applications
echo "NoDisplay=true" >> ~/.local/share/applications/audacious.desktop
You may need to refresh some menus for the change to be applied. To do that, just log out then log in again.

The .desktop files are in /usr/share/applications or in one of its sub-directories. To check you could type:

Code: Select all

find /usr/share/applications -name audacious.desktop
