Can you run other gtk apps? If you can't, run first. You'll need salixtools-1.6.0 for that.

It now works; but not when called from the command line (as root). Perhaps it's not meant to. I suspect that one of the earlier steps fixed it, but because I was in maintenance mode, I kept calling it from konsole. In any case, my friend can now watch anything. Thank you!
