I've been using Linux for about 11 years. Everything from Debian to Fedora to Arch, etc, etc. I am now interested in Salix to use as my main desktop OS. (From the KDE Live CD) It looks well branded, polished, lot of effort put into it, and I love the feel of it, its really fast.
My question are more with regards to packages. I noticed in gslapt, a few packages seem 'older' than I would like them to be. Is there a Salix repo (or Slackware as I noticed its backwards compatable) that I could use to get a few more 'updated packages'?
My other question is. How stable is Salix for general work (I am a web dev) so I would be looking to use this for all my projects, I know Slackware is awesome for stability (so I herd), but is this true?
Thanks and keep up the good work!!
New to Salix; A few Qs...
Re: New to Salix; A few Qs...
For Salix 13.1, no. Only security updates go into the 13.1 repositories. New versions for most packages will be included in Salix 13.37. Or you can compile the "updated packages" you want yourself.A.I. BOT wrote:My question are more with regards to packages. Ok great!
Ok I was just curious because I noticed PHP was at ver 5.2 where I prefer 5.3, but its not a big deal. About how often does a release happen? Every x months?gapan wrote: For Salix 13.1, no. A release is done when it's done
No defined dates or something.
