Gslapt - how does it work

Post by jpg153 »

Well,

gslapt offers some views/selections (from german system - translated/guessed):
  • all
  • available
  • installed
  • show marked packages
  • upgradeable
I dont see a difference between all and available. :!:
installed gives me 2 lines: rootuser-settings and zzz-settings... :?:
same result for upgradeable :?:

Whats the trick to understand the output which is obviously different to my expectation...? :?

I'm also a bit disappointed with the way gslapt filters the packages. But it'a bit buggy in fact to my opinion.
For example, if you choose "upgrades", you must hit "enter" in the empty search box to see them appear.
A bit annoying to have the popup on a package when you left-click on it near the check-box. The menu should appear on right-clic only.
slapt-get is a really good package manager. gslap is good but the interface is perfectible :)

No idea, I'm using gslapt only for "show upgradable". For all other action I'm using slapt-get or just take a look into /var/log/packages ;)

Good to see I am not alone, but going back to a terminal session is not what I am after :!:

Is this something to be fixed by the Salix team or is it Slackware people?

It actually makes much sense to me :D

all is all packages, installed and available
available is packages that are available from enabled repositories
installed is packages that you installed manually and not available from enabled repositories
upgradable is packages that have a different version that the one installed in the enabled repositories.

so if you only install packages from repositories, "all" and "available" will be identical.
