Background lost - some service not starting?

Hi

My computer just crash. Don't know why... When it boot up again the background picture and the desktop icons were gone and I just lose 1 workplace (now only 3 possible workplaces - used to be 4, right?).
I'm pretty much sure that it's a service/daemon not starting... but not sure what to do?

My system is running Salix XFCE out-of-the-box, no changes since installation (23. May 2011), apart from the normal updates and LibreOffice install.
No tweak was ever made to the original config. Never fell the need

Probably xfdesktop crashed for some reason. Maybe you ran out of RAM. Try Alt-F2, type xfdesktop and see what happens. If it works, make sure you log out and save your session.
