Strange thing happening after reboot right after installatio

So, I installed Salix OS(Piece of cake, very easy and fast) rebooted, and my monitor flashed white with grey stripes. Thats pretty much it. Installed a basic system, made a USB stick with root on it and rebooted.

Lacking information beyond being useful. HW (graphics)? Monitor? When does it happen? (Assuming it happens during X startup /var/log/Xorg.0.log.)

What do mean by this? Did you install Salix to a USB Stick?

My monitors resoulution is 1280x1024. I have an nVidia GeForce 6150SE graphics card and it happens right after I see the maufacturers logo (Compaq). Cant use the system at all.

You mean it happens right after BIOS? Because that would mean the bootloader lilo hits that graphic failure, in which case it probably can't be blamed because it relies on functionality provided by the BIOS to produce graphical output. So your BIOS would need to be buggy.
You could boot to a Salix LiveCd an try installing lilo again with lilosetup. If it still fails you could try to install another bootloader like grub2.

Do you mean that the monitor flashed and then came back to normal, right after you logged in? If it did, I think I know what happened...
