Would like to make a module (.salt) which contains all that's necessary files to have wireless internet access available after booting.
What I did up to now was to provide the necessary settings files in '/etc/wicd/' (eg. manager-settings.conf, wireless-settings.conf) and to put the necessary Individual network configurations file in '/var/lib/wicd/configurations/'.
That's not enough. How to instruct the system to set up that wireless connection?
If you have wired access you do not have to provide anything : you are automatically connected. Would like to have same result with wireless.
Thank you for any hint.
XFCE-13.37 LIVE wireless WICD module
Re: XFCE-13.37 LIVE wireless WICD module
just a little hint, if you install LIVE to a USB drive, activate persistance, and go into wicd and enter a key or just check the box "connect automatically", it will connect automatically every time you boot.
This only works if you use the usb stick to boot a computer inside a given wireless network.
don't know if this setting pushes over if you do a "liveclone" but you won't break anything by trying, except maybe a blank cd-rw

Thank you very much for kind reaction.Mats wrote:just a little hint, if you install LIVE to a USB drive, activate persistance, and go into wicd and enter a key or just check the box "connect automatically", it will connect automatically every time you boot.
Fully agree with you. But you have to make choices : either you choose persistence or you choose modules. Have chosen modules.
Would like to obtain that "connect automatically" through a module.
More hints?
Re: XFCE-13.37 LIVE wireless WICD module
I'm not very aware of configurations of wireless.
But you could try this :
- Boot your live CD, connect to your wireless network by configuring and entering password
- Then, go into the following directory: /mnt/salt/mnt/rw/
- You will find all the files that have been modified/added with this live session.
- You can extract the ones that you want to make a salt squashfs module for wireless.

Unfortunately found only the files with the wicd settings. Not the file which triggers the wired / wireless setup.
Anyway, thank you. Will try to read more about wireless networks.

Possibly your module is overwritten by another one? The order they're loaded in and overwrite each other afaik depends on the sort order of the names.
