I finally got a chance to check the installer with the beta 2 iso.
The keyboard section refresh problem was triggered because the keyboard configuration of the LiveCD was not yet the same as in Salix Standard. It is fixed nonetheless (the trace it caused doesn't block the other process anymore).
Concerning the other bugs, all available loop devices in beta2 seem to already be used for the mounting of the different live modules... so the installer will now create a new one for its own purpose.

Re: Salix Live 13.0 beta 2
What really matters is where you are going, not where you come from.
Re: Salix Live 13.0 beta 2
I also have a suggestion for the grub menu (I realize this may be a bit late --Sorry I was away for awhile-- )
'Setting up keyboard' might seem more logical than 'Changing keyboard' ? -> Most people in this world would of course want to change the default US keyboard and would consider this as an initial setup since they would have never chose it in the first place.

Re: Salix Live 13.0 beta 2
May I suggest to put the "return to menu" first in the boot options ? Because after setting an option, the cursor goes on the first line, and you need to scroll to the last line for returing to the menu.
Could grub2 menu have script to input text ?
If so it could be good to have these options :
"Enable persistency" (default)
"Disable persistency"
"Change persistency file" (default : xslsave.xfs)
This is about the "changes" cheatcode.

Re: Salix Live 13.0 beta 2
Hopefully, all bugs brought up in this thread regarding the installer are fixed.
To test, as root, copy the following two files is /usr/sbin (straight from a live cession) & launch the installer:
http://salix.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... staller.py
http://salix.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... losetup.py
while the following file should be overwritten in /usr/share/applications:
http://salix.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... er.desktop
http://salix.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... up.desktop
('Save the links as'... you may have to 'chmod +x' the downloaded files)
Tx

Re: Salix Live 13.0 beta 2
Just uploaded new Liver Installer & LiloSetup (links above have been updated)
I need feedback from testing LiloSetup in divers settings (both from a Live environment or from a standard Salix installation)

Tx for your help.

Re: Salix Live 13.0 beta 2
So I tried Salix because I wanted something light and complete.
Well, surprisingly with th XFCE4.61 interface it is much eavier than KDE3.5.9 on Kaella 3.1.1, so much eavier that on a old PC having 256Mb shared RAM, Salix boots, but if I try to open any application, even Thunar, it hangs and I must finally switch off the PC....
On the contrary with the old Kaella, I can even open the fat OpenOffice2
So much tunning has to be done.
I tried on another PC with 512Mb and their also it proofed to be way slower than Slax 6.1.2 for instance. I haven't tried other distro with XFCE, because other are so old (too many needed fixed in the last 3 months, particularly with NTFS).
If I like Salix design, it's way too slow for me and I won't use until that point is fixed.
Core packages should be updated, particularly Kernel & NTFS-3G see the good PartedMagic 4.9 distro.
Finally, I would recommend to remove FireFox and replace it by the bleezing fast Iron Browser( Chrome without spying, see http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php) or possibly have FireFox as an additionnal package.
Might seem harsh, but I just want to push for improvements.
