No wireless with a rt61 pci card

Post by hc.e »

It worked with wicd and an older Version of Zenwalk.
Now I switched to Salix 13.0.1 and it dosn't any more.
Sometimes I can't even scan, but after modprobe -r rt61pci and then modprobe rt61pci I can scan, but it never connects.

Some parts from dmesg, I don't know if they are important.

Maybe a problem with the module included in the 2.6.29.6 kernel? You could try the 2.6.30.5 kernel in slackware 13.0 testing: ftp://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/linux/slackware/s ... -2.6.30.5/
or try to build your own.

I'm guessing you have the rt61-firmware package installed.

I found today in Zenwalk for some problems whit totem that gstreamer-gnolin could give problems to wireless connections. Maybe only whit some drivers. Today after installing it my connection was gone, as I unnistall and install again a bunch of stuff maybe I'm wrong but this is what I think.

I do have the firmware installed.

By internet search I found a page, that is telling me how to change the region.
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/developer ... atory/CRDA

I tried to do so:

root@pc-alt:~# iw reg set EU
iw: error while loading shared libraries: libnl.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Could it be, that I need this library?
Where do I find it?

It's in the libnl package (slapt-get -i libnl).
I was missing it too, but wireless has been working though. Therefore I doubt that it'll fix your problems, but try anway.

I can only install the kernel, but not the modules and firmware:

root@pc-alt:~# installpkg kernel-modules-smp-2.6.30.5_smp-i686-1_testing.txz
Skipping package kernel-modules-smp-2.6.30.5_smp-i686-1_testing (package with same base name is already installed)...

That's because as the error says a package with the same name is already installed. Try "upgradepkg" instead.
