We'll deal with that when we start making the MATE edition, if it's really a problem inside MATE. It doesn't affect the Xfce release the least bit.

I just installed Salix 64 bit Xfce 14.0 RC3 as my main OS, it installed fine and I customized it the way I like it and installed the programs I use without encountering any problems.

Are there any plans to add the language packs for Thunderbird to the Salix 14.0 repositories like there is in the Salix 13.37 repositories?

32-bit:

I installed the the proprietary nVidia (nouveau didn't work) at which point most things seemed fine. Also installed Me-TV (sound and video fine), Brother printer and scanner both work fine, VirtualBox (with W2K), Privoxy in Midori as well as FF. Also tried the Tor bundle, it runs, but its quite slow (maybe a settings thing, I don't know).

Then tried movie DVDs, and häh? They are visible in Thunar but I can't play them, neither in xine nor whaamp.

Something simple I missed, an Xfce thing?

whaamp:

Could not open resource for reading.

resindvdsrc.c(364): rsn_dvdsrc_start (): /GstPlayBin2:player/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0/RsnDvdBin:source/resinDvdSrc:dvdsrc:
system error: No such file or directory

xine:

cannot fine plugin for MRL [dvd:/]

just a thought, but on typing mount:

/dev/sr0 on /run/media/xxxxx/WAYNESWORLD_EUROPENORTH type udf (ro,nosuid,nodev,uid=1000,gid=100,iocharset=utf8,umask=0077,uhelper=udisks2)

are media applications having trouble with the different mounting system?

Installed 32 bit via Unetbootin/USB Stick, no problems.
Installed Nvidia 310.19 driver, no problems.
In fact there were no problems with either the install, configuration, or package installs (that I use, anyway)

Now if only gapan could get the panel-mail-checker to compile, I'd be a happy camper :)

Tried out RC3.
Used unetbootin to prepare bootable USB stick, no issue booting computer and install on a partition.
I used Lilo to install onto root partition without issue.

Added codec, somehow parole did not like to play mp4 file.
Added vlc, no issue to play most media files, including mp4.

Have been using it for few hours, not much issue.

Decided to try installing AMD driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/l ... ng=English

for my graphic card
VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Cedar PRO [Radeon HD 5450]

the .run started running as usual, with error in the fglrx-install.log

Code: Select all

Supported adapter detected.
Check if system has the tools required for installation.
fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers. /lib/modules/3.2.29/build/include/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system.
One or more tools required for installation cannot be found on the system. Install the required tools before installing the fglrx driver.
Optionally, run the installer with --force option to install without the tools.
Forcing install will disable AMD hardware acceleration and may make your system unstable. Not recommended.
Can someone help on how I can install the AMD driver.
Thanks

You need to install the kernel-source package from repository (~70 mb).

Just for the heck of it I made a complete new installation on one partition. Installed VLC and the results is the same as in an upgrade:

VLC Does not play DVD or audio CD.
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/hdb'. Check the log for details.

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///run/media/user/DVDVolume/VIDEO_TS'. Check the log for details.

Can't find a log

Parole
plays DVD just fine.
