GooM multimedia Visualzation

Post by sqlpython »

Salix/Slack 14 Xfce

Some may be familiar with artful psychedelic videos that will run during an Audio multimedia event by Xmms, Parol, VLC or Clementine players. These are a nice feature as an alternative to the player displaying a Static jpg or nothing at all.

My install is does not have this action visualization for the players. There are a few to choose from but one of the more popular is GooM.
I suppose being that I installed Salix 14 as a beta that some packages might have been held back. That is Ok as I really like this install. However GooM is not available in Gslapt nor Slackbuilds. If you have the new Salix 14 and need the package here is how I obtained GooM and installed Goom.

While this link is for Slack 13.37 it will run just fine in Slack 14.
http://pkgs.org/slackware-13.37/slacky- ... l.txz.html

Once Downloaded I placed it in a subDirectory for no reason other then Neatness.
Before install, First check perhaps in Gslapt the listed required supporting packages.
I had to add

Code: Select all

glib-1.2.10
gtk+-1.2.10
xmms-1.2.11
And of course install goom-2k4.0
I opened a terminal in that directory and installed with all supporting packages in place.

Code: Select all

su
upgradepkg --install-new goom-2k4.0-i486-9sl.txz
The complete list is as follows

Code: Select all

glib >= 1.2.10-i486-3
glibc-solibs >= 2.13-i486-4
gtk+ >= 1.2.10-i486-5
libX11 >= 1.4.3-i486-2
libXau >= 1.0.6-i486-1
libXdmcp >= 1.1.0-i486-1
libXext >= 1.2.0-i486-1
libXrandr >= 1.3.1-i486-1
libXrender >= 0.9.6-i486-1
libxcb >= 1.7-i486-1
sdl >= 1.2.14-i486-5
svgalib >= 1.9.25-i486-2
xmms >= 1.2.11-i486-4
And now GooM

Interesting, thanks for posting. Had explored the whaawmp source code, to trace the problem under Salix 13.37. Simply installing goom might be the solution there too.

Does anyone have an opinion about the current quality and safety of packages from slacky.eu ?
