The Thunar bookmarks no longer work in Salix64 Xfce 14.1.
In Salix64 Xfce 14.0.1 filesystem objects could be drawn into the bookmark bar. This is no longer possible.
I have searched the web for matching error descriptions.
Many errors describe behavior in which the bookmarks are lost after the next reboot. However, the user could drag the objects to the bookmark bar. As a workaround, the manual application of the file "~/.gtk-bookmarks" was mentioned. The problem has been recognized by some distributions as an error.
This workaround works for me too, to display the bookmarks. But still I can not drag objects to the bookmark bar.
Has anyone even made my observation? Does anyone know a solution?
Who has no bookmark bar in Thunar, can display it by "Ctrl+B".

Bookmarks work just fine here... Are you sure it isn't something you broke yourself after installation?
Re: Thunar bookmarks are broken. Salix64 Xfce 14.1
It was done a fresh install on a clean hard disk drive. I have not used my backup data until now, but I've installed Pan, Firefox, XSane and Gramps. After the update via slapt-get, I've noticed the described behavior. But before that, I had not been looking for it.gapan wrote:Bookmarks work just fine here... Tomorrow I will make a new installation for other reasons and look again carefully.

What do you mean by "backup data"? Do you mean you copied a backed up directory containing thunar bookmarks from another installation?
If you have time, it would be useful if you could test three times before doing anything else - once immediately after the fresh install (which will presumably work); again after a gslapt upgrade; then after installing the software you mentioned.

No, I tried to write, that I did not used backups of my data/files. So the problem can not be caused by improper or outdated configuration data. The listed programs can not be responsible in my opinion. But I wanted to be honest, when I was asked for changes.mimosa wrote:What do you mean by "backup data"? I'll do it that way. But first one must know that a malfunction is lurking though. If you have time, it would be useful if you could test three times before doing anything else - once immediately after the fresh install (which will presumably work); again after a gslapt upgrade; then after installing the software you mentioned.
Re: Thunar bookmarks are broken. Salix64 Xfce 14.1
Now I have new insights.
First I reinstalled Salix64 Xfce 14.0.1 on a clean hard disk drive. In version 14.0.1, right after installation, you can create a bookmark in the bookmarks bar

- 1st, by draw an object into the bookmarks bar
2nd, from the context menu of an object via "Send to"

You can add Folders/Directories to Thunar bookmarks but you can't add individual files. Is this the problem?

No, the problem is, you can not draw / pull folders into the bookmarks bar in Thunar 1.6.3.knome wrote:You can add Folders/Directories to Thunar bookmarks but you can't add individual files. Is this the problem?

Just so I'm clear, you mean the left side pane on Thunar, with Devices, Places and Network, that you can change between Shortcuts and Tree view(s)? If so, dragging folders (not files!) from the main Thunar window to the <bottom> of <Places>, under the Shortcuts (not Tree!) view works just fine for me on 14.1, always has.

Whatever exactly is going on here, it seems clear that it has to do with intentional changes by the Thunar development team, not a bug in Salix's (or Slackware's) thunar package. Features may vary across versions.
