can't get salix-xfce-14.1, 32bit, to boot [SOLVED]

Post by Richard »

downloaded Salix-Xfce-14.1.iso via torrent.
md5sum matched.
burned to USB with "dd if=Salix-Xfce-14.1.iso of=/dev/sdd bs=4M;sync"
Boots OK, seemed to install to an ext4 extended partition OK,
but, at the end of install, I got a message saying that
file '/kernels/huge.s/bzimage' had an error.

And it won't boot. :(
I get:
error: file '/kernels/huge.s/bzimage' not found
error: you need to load the kernel first.

Tried installing with to MultiSystem USB but get the same error. :(

Just wondering what might be the problem
and if there are some boot codes that might help.
and what the next step should be.

I prefer Xfce but tonight I will DL the 64bit Xfce, and both Kde versions and see.
Any tips or pointers appreciated.

You need the hugesmp.s kernel, not the huge.s kernel. Did you select the latter when booting the USB drive? In fact, was there even a choice?

Thanks gapan,
I'll try again today with a different USB, just in case.
And pay more attention to the installer.

Re-torrented, md5 OK, wrote to a different USB, installed on sda6; however,
the problem was lilo-grub. (PEBKAC)

Did not install lilo, but forgot to correct the UUIDs in grub fstab
therefore, update-grub found nothing. Did that, update-grub and now to reboot.
Just a note before rebooting, just in case. :) BRB.
