I have installed whatever was in the .iso file, and updated regularly. I have not installed the codecs separately :o

I installed the codecs installer, from the command line.

Still, Exaile throws the same message

You're not understanding me. You really need to read the startup guide.

First of all, if you did a full installation (which you should have, a basic installation is for advanced users and clearly you are not one), the codecs installer is already installed, and since it is already installed, you couldn't possibly have installed it yourself, command line or not.

Then, I'm not asking you to install the codecs installer. I'm asking you if you installed the codecs. The installer is a tool that is used to install the codecs. Installing the codecs installer, doesn't mean you have installed the codecs. You need to actually run the codecs installer to install the codecs. The codecs installer is in the multimedia menu.

Again, you really need to read the startup guide.

Agreed, I am not an expert like you.
Maybe, I should have elaborated. First, when I read your reply, I checked and found no 'codecs installer' in the menu under 'multimedia'. So, I first installed the codecs-installer package using slapt-get command.
Later, I ran the program and installed all the codecs also.
Still Exaile shows the same message.
If you would like to see some of my files, pl. indicate which, I will post it

Once again: you say that you installed the codecs installer yourself. If you had made a full installation as you should have, it would already have been installed and you couldn't possibly install it yourself. This shows that you either did a basic installation (which again, you shouldn't have) or have removed things from your installation that you did not understand (which you shouldn't have). Since you're not providing any information about that, I am unable to help you.

All I know is that mp3 files play fine with exaile once you install the appropriate codecs.

Another possible problem is that your mp3 file(s) are broken somehow and can't be played. But this is just guesswork.

I suggest you reinstall Salix, making sure you select the Full installation; then install the multimedia codecs using the installer from the multimedia menu.

Before doing that, please have a look at the Startup Guide (link on Salix homepage). It would also be a good idea to check the integrity of your iso download.

Rather will live without music, than re-install. Too much work involved. Also, SAKIS 3G will not recognize CDMA 3G dongle, and I will be without wvdial, wvstreans for internet
