Will I try it and it work.
I ran "Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.6.1.exe" in Windows 7

In Step 1 I pick "Try Unlisted Linux ISO".

In Step 2 I pick "salix-mate-14.1.iso".

In Step 2 I pick where "E" that was my thumb drive and check Format E:\Drive.

Then I press "Create"

When I ran the thumb drive it right in to the install process.
I wish it could be install on a 64gb thumb drive and not on a Laptop 160gb Hard Drive or can it?

It can, but it's most probably outside your current skill level. You'll need to use isolinux as a bootloader and create an initrd that includes usb modules.
