hello to all,
after a recent upgrade, to 14.1 mate, i began to experience some strange bugs. Firstly having previously installed chromium from sourcery and using the browsec extension with it for a VPN option. After the upgrade, when I again used the browser, when clinking a link from a websearch; the system would go to the login page.
this would also occur when trying to play a DVD; the system would go to the user login page. i did not have a problem before the upgrade with these apllications.
Also i uninstalled chromium, and tried to build and reinstall it from sourcery, but got error messages, on three separate ties.
So any help ??

Re: buuggy after upgrade
The upgrade was a package upgrade for Mate 14.1. This was available as an upgrade last week.
The error messages were long and do you want the entire message log from the failed sourcery install attempt ?

These may be a better bet:
http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/chromium/
Choose your architecture, then Slackware / Salix version, download the package (.txz), and install with spkg, e.g.:

OK...followed the script, chromium compiled and installed.
THEN... when clicking the chromium link to start; it does what i described earlier....looks like a session logout and takes me to a login screen. ?????

Re: buuggy after package upgrade
Right, so this is nothing to do with Chromium, or even browsers (you mentioned something about DVDs). Either you have done something unintentionally to mess up your system, or you may have hardware problems. Does the machine have just Salix, or other OS's too?
In any case, one way to test and possibly fix it would be to back up your user data on an external medium, and reinstall Salix.
If you feel comfortable taking your computer out of its case, one of the commonest things is poor connectivity with RAM. Remove the memory and gently clean the connectors with a pencil eraser. You could also try swapping them round, if there are two or more identical cards. In a dry climate, it is important to take antistatic precautions to avoid frying the components (Google these).

Something is wrong with your graphics card/video drivers. What kind of graphics card do you have? Provide the output of:
As a first guess, you can try disabling the mate compositor if it is enabled. Got to System/Preferences/Monitors and make sure the compositor is not enabled.
