laptop storage - battery charged?

Post by mimosa »

I've had an Acer chromebook for several years now (hacked to put Salix on). I like it so much I bought an identical new one in the expectation it will not last forever. They are $200, and of course Salix runs like greased lightning on them.

That means I have one as a backup that is hardly ever used. Is it better to store it with the battery fully charged, run down, or half way? Or does it really matter? No doubt it will run down on its own over a period of months.

Removing the battery altogether is not really an option because the case, while easy enough to dissassemble, doesn't look robust enough to stand doing so more often than I have to (I swapped over the SSDs, so the "old" one has a new stock Salix installation on it).

So it looks like a bit less than half might be best. Thanks laprjns.
