ATI Driver on x86_64

Post by neRok »

hi, i followed the wiki page and installed the ati drivers on my 64bit system. seemed to go fine and my computer runs noticeably better.
http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/H ... ATI_Driver
however whenever i watch videos every few seconds i get 'tears' along the screen. i tried to open the ati catalyst control centre in the settings menu, but when i click it nothing happens. i formated the computer and installed it again, same thing. i was reading the ati page where i downloaded the driver from;
http://support.amd.com/la/gpudownload/l ... ng=English
it says "32-Bit packages must be installed for 64-Bit Linux drivers to install or work." perhaps this is the cause of my problems as i dont have enough 32bit packages?

i had this same computer running mythbuntu and it had the same problems on there as well. i used to have xp on this machine and it would play blu-ray no problems.

Search for Slackware multilib, perhaps this solves your problem.

yes, that happens to me too
but I have no idea why :(
a workaround is to launch the control center by a terminal
in a root terminal use the following command:

Code: Select all

# amdcccle
I can't help you about the tearing as I have never experienced it in my computer

thanks for that, gets the program open at least. but i fiddled with every setting and none helped, so im going to first try a couple of different video players and then look at the multilib.

well i jumped the gun and installed the multilib. made a thread here http://www.salixos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=666

im just installing wine now to make sure the multilib works. then i will re-install the ati drivers, see if it makes anything better.
