Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface)

Post by DrFreeman »

Hello, I am a Linux beginner so bare with me.
I have freshly installed Salix on my old Acer laptop and after booting i get this message:
"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem? < Yes > < No >"
My guess is that the problem is caused by the fact that the laptop has 2 graphics cards, Intel HD 3000 and Nvidia. The Nvidia card is busted (Windows could detect that it is Nvidia card but it wouldn't work)
Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

The X server output is:
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: ....
(==) Using config directory: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d"
(==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d"
(II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

Hi and welcome!

Is there maybe an option in the BIOS to disable the nvidia card?
