Need installation help for Salix

Post by pnbalaji »

Hi,

I have been using Mageia for about two years and it was working great. However, with the recent upgrade of Mageia to Mageia 9, my iMac has been having issues (getting stuck at times) and had to do hard reboot several times in a week.

I have already used Salix for few years and I am trying to get back to Salix again as this is a rock solid distro. I have a question though. My current partitioning scheme is as shown below.

Code: Select all

one[~]$ sudo fdisk -l
Password:
Disk /dev/sda: 465.76 GiB, 500107862016 bytes, 976773168 sectors
Disk model: Samsung SSD 850
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: gpt
Disk identifier: 9B317E43-04D1-443D-8B5E-14DEC97BA80F

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda1 2048 2099199 2097152 1G EFI System
/dev/sda2 2099200 157573119 155473920 74.1G Linux filesystem
/dev/sda3 157573120 976773119 819200000 390.6G Linux filesystem

When I launch the Salix live installation from live USB, I see the option to select the root (/) and home (/home) partition and I don't see an option to specify the /boot/EFI partition. If I just select the root partition to /dev/sda2 and home partition to /dev/sda3 and install grub, will it boot after the install? Or do I need to fix any issues after the install?

Can someone answer?

Thanks in advance.

EFi partition /dev/sda1 will be used from grub. To see the efi partition click on "partitions" button and there will see the efi /dev/sda1 which is fat partition. This partition has to be already signed as boot, esp. If not then sign it as boot, esp. Then close the gparted and proceed to installation. I do not see a swap partition. Ok you don't have to use a swap partition if you don't want it.
Select the root partition to /dev/sda2 and home partition to /dev/sda3. The Grub is already checked as default boot loader.
Set the system clock, language and keyboard, Set the user name and password and proceed to installation.
Here it is the salix_live_startup_guide.
